How the affiliate links work

Some links on Me and the Bots are affiliate links. If you click one and then buy, the company pays Art Digital Media Ltd a commission. You pay the same price you would have paid anyway, and sometimes less, because a few programmes give readers a discount.

This is how the site earns money, and it is stated here plainly so you can weigh it. It is also required: the UK Advertising Standards Authority and the Competition and Markets Authority treat undisclosed affiliate links as misleading advertising, and I agree with them.

The rule

The tool I would tell a friend to buy is the tool that gets recommended, whether or not it pays a commission. Several tools on this site pay nothing. If a paid programme ever conflicts with what I would honestly say, the honest version is published and the programme is dropped.

How you can tell

• Any article containing affiliate links carries a notice under its title.
• Affiliate links are marked in the page code so search engines treat them as paid, as Google asks.
• The tools page lists every product in the stack. Where a relationship exists it is stated there.
